  1. Video continues to be king.

According to Hubspot, over 3.3 billion people globally watch digital video.

Online videos accounted for 82.5% of all web traffic, which is expected to continue to rise. The importance of the medium is well-recognised amongst marketing professionals, with 87% planning to use it as part of their strategy in 2025 (Lemonlight).

With increasingly more social media platforms becoming video-first, there are numerous new visual tendencies and connected tools, like polls and live Q&As, making videos more interactive. Nevertheless, not all tools and TikTok trends work for every video, so always consider your key objectives and audience. According to LinkedIn, their users are 20 times more likely to share videos than other posts, with videos designed for silent viewing being 70% more likely to be watched to the end. (So, don’t forget those subtitles.)

  1. Short-form videos may be in the lead, but long-form videos are making a comeback.

Short-form videos (under 60 seconds in length) have been dominating social media platforms fuelled by demand for engaging bite-sized content that is sharp and to the point. However, recent data suggest that longer videos are gaining popularity. From recipe videos, behind-the-scenes previews, interviews and demos, longer videos are coming back! Currently, 50 per cent of all video engagement is with videos longer than 15 minutes, yet these account for only 8 per cent of video content. But the key to making the most of long-form content is to create engaging, high-quality videos that resonate and appeal to your audience.

  1. It’s all about the content.

When it comes to video content, the possibilities are endless. Depending on the audience and the purpose, there are many different types of videos to choose from in order to educate, entertain, engage and excite. For example, many leading podcasts, a traditional audio medium, now utilise video clips as part of their promotion, adding a visual dimension for their listeners to experience and boosting engagement.

Likewise, more and more businesses are using live streams to increase their global reach – a tactic available to big corporations and smaller enterprises.

Behind-the-scenes videos are also proving invaluable when it comes to connecting with your clients.

Speaking of clients, Wyzowl found that 68 per cent prefer to learn about new products and services through video. Data also suggest that video instructions help customers (93% of whom agree) and help reduce post-purchase support calls

  1. Think vertical.

A key aspect to remember when planning your video strategy for 2025 is mobile optimisation. It may sound obvious, but most social media platforms are designed to be mobile-first, and most of us spend our time online on mobile devices. It is crucial to build and edit your video content in a mobile-friendly way, considering all aspects, from frames, subtitles, positioning of text and graphics, and, of course, accessibility.   1. Let’s not forget AI.

Although it seems to be a little bit divisive (like Marmite – love or hate it), AI is here to stay. There are plenty of generative AI videos circulating the online space, and more and more companies are curious about this new and exciting innovation. This is a rather big topic and one we are intrigued to follow. Nevertheless, it is fair to say that new AI-powered video generation applications, editing software and much more to come, 2025 will bring many new developments in the field.

New UEA degree in Artificial Intelligence to harness the potential of tomorrow’s world

With the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change recently claiming the UK must ‘create opportunities for deep collaboration among the public and private sector by introducing a global AI talent Visa’ and ‘adapt its institutions for the age of AI’, it is timely that a new one-year degree in Artificial Intelligence has launched at the University of East Anglia (UEA), designed to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and industry-ready skills needed to excel.

The new postgraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence, which starts in September 2025, is designed to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to flourish in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

According to a government study, AI companies generated more than £14 billion in revenues in 2023, with dedicated AI companies accounting for 32% (£4.5 billion) of the total.

Delivering this course in East Anglia could provide a strong geographical advantage, with a government study looking at the number of registered AI companies showing that outside of London and the South East, the East of England’s 8% is higher than every other area, including Scotland (5%), South West (4%), South East (4%), East Midlands (2%), and the North East (1%).

Students on the new course will have the unique opportunity to explore a wide range of AI techniques and real-world applications, including machine learning, data mining, computer vision, and cybersecurity. The curriculum covers everything from foundational programming languages like Python to advanced AI concepts, ensuring that graduates are industry ready.

Collaboration Earth: Airbus is joining forces with Space4Climate to deliver “Collaboration Earth”

On May 14th 2025, Airbus is joining forces with Space4Climate to deliver ‘Collaboration Earth’ – A workshop uniting space and non-space sectors to explore ways how Earth Observation data can address critical climate and sustainability applications. The workshop will take place in the afternoon of the Space4Climate annual meeting which will be held at Airbus in Stevenage, and is open to non-Space4Climate members.

The workshop will be a cutting-edge knowledge exchange with discussions on the next generation of satellite missions, and potential collaborations focussed on how the data could be used to address challenges faced by those working with Earth Observation data to address climate change.

There will be an opportunity to break out into parallel sessions with a choice of critical themes for brainstorming, ideas generation and challenge sharing, leveraging climate data from space.

The workshop is free to attend and is part of Airbus’s Community for Space Prosperity (CUSP), which aims to connect, inspire and grow the UK space industry.

Are you are interested in supporting the next generation of engineers in Norfolk?

City College Norwich are currently looking for companies related to the space and aeronautical industry to get involved with our T-Level engineering work placements.

T-Levels are two-year Level 3 qualifications, equivalent to three A-Levels. Students must achieve a pass in both English and Maths at GCSE level to be considered for the course, as it is academically rigorous. They are typically aged between 16 and 19. A core part of the T-Level involves completing an industry placement, which requires learners to attend a relevant workplace one day per week (block placements are also available over college holiday periods).  Student hours need to total a minimum of 315 hours – however this time can be spread out across multiple companies and different work-related activities.

To clarify, this is not an apprenticeship, so there is no requirement to pay the student. However, it’s a great opportunity to gain extra support in your business and potentially identify future talent — a real chance to ‘try before you buy’. Many of our employer partners have gone on to offer full-time roles to their placement students after the course ends, although there is no obligation to do so if it doesn’t work out or you are unable to accommodate them long term.

In addition to work placements, there are also opportunities for employers to deliver talks or classroom activities to help students gain deeper insight into the industry.

A design for Life Science: scoping out your cleanroom construction project with the Guardtech Group

Suffolk contamination control specialists have fleshed out some critical early stages advice for clients looking to start a new cleanroom build

ANY GOOD construction project needs to get the basics right. But when it comes to a controlled environment, where the complexity of engineering, layout and performance is so vital to preventing contamination and protecting process and yield, the fundamental building blocks of a project simply cannot be ignored.

It’s one of the reasons the Guardtech Group have invested so heavily in bolstering their Design Team over the past four years, with the Suffolk contamination control experts quadrupling their numbers from three permanent cleanroom design specialists to 12.

And with three highly experienced Directors also involved in the Design process, it gives the Guardtech Group, and its subsidiary cleanroom construction brands Cleanroom Solutions, Guardtech Cleanrooms, Cleancube, Isopod and Isoblok, a robust team with a wide-ranging wealth of structural, mechanical and electrical cleanroom design knowhow with which to tackle even the most complex of facility specifications.

Of the Group leaders, Commercial Director Mark Wheeler lends 25 years of cleanroom construction experience – and he’s used everything he’s learned over a hefty bank of successful previous projects to put together a useful guide for applications looking to undertake a build of their own, both in new facilities and within existing premises.

“There are many key design considerations to cover when you’re trying to implement a successful framework for a new cleanroom construction project,” he says.

“It’s critical that your plan is clear from the offset – and that means defining the reason for needing a cleanroom, which ultimately lies with your process and asking a series of important questions.

“What is your Process Flow going to look like? You need to outline clearly what happens in the space and how it happens – how do people enter and leave? How do they move around the process? How do raw materials enter the space? What is the route for finished goods? How is waste collected? How are all of these things done in a manner that minimises cross contamination opportunity?”

Wheeler and the team then collaborate with clients to consider which tools they might use to minimise risk, such as transfer hatches, trolleys, HEPA-filtered goods lifts and cranes.

“This all needs planning and documenting within process flow diagrams and all of our decisions need to be focussed on reducing movement and restricting entry to our most highly classified zones,” he adds.

Next up is the Equipment Register – which lists the equipment that an application is using and how it is laid out, the equipment dimensions and how it transfers into and through the space.

“Clients need to consider things like turning circles and access points, the maintenance access that is required for the kit and the clear space needed to surround the equipment.”

Following on from the Equipment Register, it’s vital to define a full Utility Schedule for each piece of equipment – including the power required and whether gas services like nitrogen, compressed air, vacuum or extraction are needed.

As a result, associated flow rates will need to be noted, and whether or not water or drainage is required.

“This then leads us to interrogate the likely heat output,” Wheeler adds, “so we can factor this into the air conditioning design to compensate for the heat gains and meet the room condition.”

As with any controlled environment process, personnel – and their impact on the space – is one of the most important factors to consider.

Wheeler asks: “Who are the people required to run the process in your application? You need to determine the occupancy for each process room and outline likely shift patterns – this will then help you to decide on the space required for the change area, facilitate occupancy levels and consider the shift ‘switch-over’ of your operators.”

But a beautifully well-oiled cleanroom operation isn’t just about the people involved – it’s also about the product they’re dealing with.

Clients need to consider the environmental conditions that their product requires whilst in production and during storage.

Is it sensitive to changes in temperature or to low or high humidity conditions? Do vibration levels need to be considered, lighting levels in terms of luminance or wavelength, is the product vulnerable to or does it generate a static charge?

And on top of that, comes Regulatory Compliance – is your product regulated by a governing body such as the MHRA, the FDA, World Health Organisation or NADCAP?

If so, you’ll need to consider what guidance you need to review, understand, consider or follow – such as EU GMP guidelines like those in EudraLex Volume 4 Annex 1 – or those provided by the full range of the ISO 14644 standards and how that governs your brief.

What, perhaps, underpins thoughts on Personnel, Product and Regulation however is the actual building itself – and the construction principles you wish to adopt.

“It’s important to think about how you want your facility to be built,” says Wheeler. “Would you rather a more traditional stick-built approach of onsite construction or are you tempted to adopt a more modern approach with offsite pre-constructed pods or modules that are delivered to site in a more plug-and-play fashion?”

Whatever set-up an application has and whatever the process requirements, it’s clear that the host building requires a particularly stringent pre-evaluation.

“What limitations or restrictions are you presented with by the selection of the host building,” asks Wheeler, “and are they limitations that need to be accommodated or overcome?”

The floor space available and internal height of the building will determine whether it is single or multi-storey.

And then there’s the need for potential plant space above the cleanroom ceiling, which is usually a minimum of 800mm.

Wheeler continues: “Will the building structure form part of the support strategy for the cleanroom and its infrastructure? Does it need to be a free-standing environment with independent steel portal frame to suspend from – or indeed a mezzanine serving the same purpose whilst providing additional space for potential utilisation above?”

Ultimately though, any good project starts with an incredibly clear, well considered and appropriately challenged brief.

“One industry leads the way as an example of best practice for this approach,” surmises Wheeler, “the Pharmaceutical industry.

“Pharmaceutical environments start their life as a URS or User Requirement Specification, which is a document that that clearly identifies all your requirements and desires which can be used to form the contract deliverables.

“Room data sheets can help to form your plan of action, taking into account performance specification, room dimensions, heights, classification, temperature & humidity with specified tolerances and lux levels.

“This part of the brief needs to be fleshed out in as much detail as possible so that you achieve the environment you want to achieve in each of the specified zones.

“By working with specialists like those we have here at the Guardtech Group, in an open, collaborative process, you’ll be part of a detailed, thorough and robust design process that ensures no key steps are missed – and that you end up with exactly the right facility to meet your specific requirements.

The benefits and challenges of adopting a recirculating plenum for cleanrooms

Guardtech Nordic AB GMP specialist Thomas Loof gives his take on the pros and cons of utilising a recirc plenum in your cleanroom project

A plenum can be a wise design choice when considering your airflow management within your Cleanroom Design. It is a sealed space that manages the transition of air from one path to another and can cut the need for complicated and messy infrastructure as well as reduce overall project cost.

It is widely adopted in a range of high-tech classified environments but typically remains industry specific, with Semiconductor being the widest industry adopter. It can be applied across industry, but it presents challenges that need careful consideration when deciding if this should be a tool to be adopted within your airflow management design.

Benefits of a ducted plenum system:

Simplified Airflow Distribution – Rather than a network of ducts, dampers and valves terminally connected to individual filter boxes, a plenum provides uniform air distribution across a vast area, covering multiple rooms, typically utilising fan filter units to draw air from the shared void space. This can save significant cost by eliminating ductwork materials and the significant labour resources associated to install it. It can also simplify and expedite the balancing exercise, allowing fan speeds to be adjusted at a central point of control to achieve desired volumes and pressures.

Improved Temperature Control – The return air from the cleanroom exhaust and the conditioned fresh air supply air from the air handling unit can mix and circulate within the plenum space, providing the opportunity for a mixed uniform condition prior to delivery back into the controlled environment via terminal filtration. This ensure that a common condition is delivered at point of delivery, eliminating the issue of hot and cold spots within specific rooms.

Energy Efficiency – Properly designed plenums optimise airflow by reducing air transit time, eliminating duct networks and minimising return air back to the AHU, whilst reducing energy consumption by decreasing fan size and power consumption at the air handling unit. With this design philosophy the AHU (and coils) only needs to be sized to consider the percentage of returned air to the AHU and the conditioned fresh air percentage, rather than supplying the full demand to meet the supply volumes required to meet high air change rates. This can be significantly more cost effective for ISO5 environments especially, where the volume of air movement is significant to meet the high air change rate values required for compliance.

Challenges of designing and installing a ducted plenum:

Segregation – This design is not always the most suitable approach. The Pharmaceutical industry, for example, will use a plenum design more sparingly and will rarely consider a plenum that broaches between two rooms. A mixed airstream that can be shared between two rooms introduces the risk of cross-contamination from one room (and process) to another, this can present challenges and often will return in Pharma adopting a closed loop ducted system.

Void Management – The plenum will require cleaning at some point, so appropriate access must be considered. The same is true of maintenance access for installed services within the space, therefore consideration may need to be given for loading and walkability as well as appropriate lighting and escape routes. Smoke detection within the void will need to be considered if the plenum is greater than 800mm in depth, this can add cost and complexity, maintenance challenges and risk is aspiration is also required.

 

Cost Comparison – On a larger scale project with high air supply volumes a plenum will often present significant cost savings that are worth the compromises that may be required to implement it. However, for smaller scale jobs or lower grade classification projects, when the supply volumes are lower, a more traditional approach may be the better cost option, much of this decision will come down to the temperature and humidity requirements of the environment and be impacted by the AHU selection.

Conclusion

The largest benefits offered by adopting a shared space recirculating plenum is a lower cost in energy and air distribution materials, typically a quicker install, a more aesthetically pleasing installation, a uniform and well mixed air supply and a reduced volumetric burden on the AHU for passing air stream. Industries that do not have to worry about cross process contamination, especially those operating at ISO5 & ISO6, should be looking to this solution at design stage to see if its implementation is suitable for their specific process. A cost vs. risk analysis should be conducted and if the balance is right the client will benefit from lower installation costs and lower ongoing operating costs.
